Another Day of Sweet and Cranky

22 Jun

The morning started off beautifully: the kids and I made blueberry pancakes while waiting on daddy to arrive home from work. I love the moment he walks in the door, their little eyes bright up with so much happiness to see him. They both scream “DADDY!!!!!” and make a bee-line for the door. After breakfast, we each got dressed for our movie outing. The kids have been so excited this week knowing that today we would see the much awaited Toy Story 3. It was a great movie, suspenseful and emotional. I admit, I did cry a couple of times. Alanna wanted to know why I was crying, of course. She is full of curiousity.

I should have known that after a near perfect morning, something would go wrong in the afternoon. From about 5:00 until bedtime, this house felt like a war-zone between the two siblings. Both Alanna and Sebastian were in constant argument. I tried to intervent and built a tent in the living room, hoping that a little family time would calm them. Didn’t work — only made mommy lose her patience. Alanna began climbing on the chairs I made to use the tents, and as I was telling her to get down, Sebastian began climbing on the back of the couch. It was never ending, until FINALLY, bedtime……. AHHHH, the peace and quiet. After getting them both settled, we read our books, sang songs, and prayed (our nightly ritual). They both again became the sweet children that I love so much.

I just looked in on them, both sleeping soundly. Such sweetness, but yet can turn on the crankiness so quickly. I pray that GOD guides me each day in teaching them to be wonderful people. I am so blessed to have my two sweet, even though sometimes cranky, children.

What a wonderful day!! You have the talent and God given ability to be a wonderful Mom. I don’t know if it is your teaching background or just learnig from the best (your Mom) but you are a creative and patient ( even though you don’t think so) Mom. Cherish these years…they go by so quickly and you never get them back. Our house was so quite when the kids moved out and now I welcome the noise when the grandkids come over. An amazing cycle.

You are doing a wonderful job with those two beautiful children!!! I know it’s hard…..Ash is almost 18 and there are still days I wonder which side of her I’ll see (cranky vs. sweet).

If they were not “Cranky” on occasion you would never notice how “SWEET” they really are. It’s like sunshine and rain; we need both to appreciate the other.
